Snapchat asks for 150 px clear at the top and 330 px at the bottom of the canvas, on a best-practices page rather than the one it dedicates to safe zones. See your creative under the Snapchat interface, free.

# Snapchat safe zone: the numbers are on the wrong page

Keep the top 150 px and the bottom 330 px of your canvas clear of graphics and logos. Snapchat states it on its Creative Best Practices page, not on the page it dedicates to safe zones, which carries no number at all (read 16 August 2026). Snapchat never gives a percentage, and the 40% figure in circulation is Meta's.

The overlay carries two readings because Snapchat publishes two. Best practices (150 / 330) is the pair written for this format, and the one to use. Commercials (150 / 150) is the pair on the Commercial Specifications page. The chips carry Snapchat's pixels; the bands are drawn at Snapchat's 1080 x 1920 canvas, where those pixels work out at 7.81% and 17.19% of frame height. That conversion is arithmetic, not Snapchat's, and it is set out below.

Safe zone

## The Snapchat safe zone, and how firm it is

Snapchat gives a fixed number and, on another page, says the interface that number protects against is not fixed. Both come from Snapchat's own pages, read on 16 August 2026, and both matter when you decide how much margin to leave.

### The figures: 150 px top, 330 px bottom

One sentence carries Snapchat's only canvas-level safe zone, and it sits on the Creative Best Practices page rather than the specs page or the safe-zone page:

> “Keep the top 150px and the bottom 330px of your canvas clear graphics or logos to prevent overlap with the Snapchat ad UI elements. Review Safe Zones for Ads on Snapchat for full details.”

[Snapchat Business Help Center, Single Image or Video Creative Best Practices](https://businesshelp.snapchat.com/s/article/snap-ads-practices?language=en_US) · accessed 16 Aug 2026

Two things follow. It is a design recommendation, not an upload gate: nothing is rejected for breaking it. And the sentence carrying the numbers points you at a page that has none, which is where most Snapchat spec confusion starts.

### Do not go looking on the safe-zone page

Snapchat's Safe Zones for Ads page defines the concept, asserts that buffers exist on every side, claims one unified specification across four formats, and states not one value. It sends you to a toggle inside Ads Manager instead:

> “Each format has defined top, bottom, and side buffers that help keep critical elements visible. To review creative alignment, use the Safe Zone toggle in Ads Manager. Dynamic CTA variants themselves do not appear in Ads Preview.”

[Snapchat Business Help Center, Safe Zones for Ads on Snapchat](https://businesshelp.snapchat.com/s/article/safe-zones?language=en_US) · accessed 16 Aug 2026

One practical note if you re-check it: businesshelp.snapchat.com returns an error panel to plain HTTP requests, so a command-line fetch shows an empty article. This page was read in a browser, and the figures really are absent rather than missed.

### Snapchat's own call to action moves, so 330 px is a floor

Three Snap pages say the CTA is chosen per impression, and that the variants cannot be previewed:

> “Eligible ads may serve with Dynamic CTAs (call to actions), which automatically optimizes CTA format and placement for each impression.”

[Snapchat Business Help Center, Single Image or Video Creative Best Practices](https://businesshelp.snapchat.com/s/article/snap-ads-practices?language=en_US) · accessed 16 Aug 2026

> “Please Note: Dynamic CTA variants do not appear in Ads Preview. Following safe zone guidance helps keep key brand elements visible across these Dynamic CTA variants.”

[Snapchat Business Help Center, Single Image or Video Creative Best Practices](https://businesshelp.snapchat.com/s/article/snap-ads-practices?language=en_US) · accessed 16 Aug 2026

If placement is optimised per impression, the region the CTA occupies is not fixed, and one static bottom reserve cannot fully describe it. That is the same reason TikTok gives for publishing no number at all. Snapchat publishes 330 px anyway, so treat it as a floor and give yourself a little more if the design allows.

### Pixels, not percentages, and never 40%

Snapchat states its safe zone against “your canvas”, and it publishes two canvases: 1080 x 1920 on the Help Center, 720 x 1280 on its own marketing site. So the same figures cover different shares of the frame depending on which page you read. The conversions below are arithmetic, not Snapchat's:

| Reserve | At 1080 x 1920 | At 720 x 1280 |
| ----------------------- | -------------- | ------------- |
| Top 150 px | 7.81% | 11.72% |
| Bottom 330 px | 17.19% | 25.78% |
| Top and bottom combined | 25.00% | 37.50% |

At 1080 x 1920 the two reserves come to exactly a quarter of the canvas height, which is a quick check on your own layout. Neither column is a Snapchat figure, so do not quote either as one.

The 40% figure often attributed to Snapchat is not Snapchat's. No Snap-owned page states 40% in any context (all eleven sources below, plus a targeted search, 16 August 2026). It is Meta's rule for Reels ads that carry disclaimers.

### What sits in the reserved space

Snapchat names its interface elements more precisely than any other platform here, and never gives their geometry. Every row below is Snapchat naming its own element and the region it sits in:

| Element | Region | Named by |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| Brand name | Bottom | Safe Zones for Ads |
| Headline | Bottom, directly under the brand name | Safe Zones for Ads; Marketing API |
| Call-to-action pill | Bottom | Safe Zones for Ads |
| Progress bar | Named, region not stated | Safe Zones for Ads |
| Collection thumbnails | “At the bottom of the Top Snap” | Marketing API, Dynamic Collection Ads |
| AD slug | “The lower right corner of the Snap Ad” | Commercial Specifications |
| 6 second ticker | “At the top of the screen within the buffer zone” | Commercial Specifications |

That explains the asymmetry: a small top reserve for a ticker or progress bar, a large bottom reserve for the brand name, the headline stacked under it, the CTA pill, the collection thumbnails and the AD slug. Snapchat never says which element takes which part of the 330 px, so any component-by-component breakdown you find elsewhere was invented. It also publishes no side value at all, despite its safe-zone page saying side buffers exist.

### 175 and 269 are a different asset, do not mix them in

Snapchat publishes a second pair of numbers, 175 px top and 269 px bottom, with text kept inside a box 300 px wide by 128 px high. Those belong to the Story Ad tile, a 360 x 600 image, not to the 1080 x 1920 canvas, so they cannot be converted to the top snap or compared with 150 and 330. The tile box is also the only horizontal safe zone Snapchat publishes anywhere, and it is a text box on a tile rather than a side margin on the canvas.

> “For Story Ads that include CTA, the text in the supplied image should adhere to a 175px buffer zone at the top and 269 px buffer zone at the bottom of the tile image to avoid potential overlap.”

Two rows here appear on no help page. The API is where Snapchat states that the headline renders under the brand name, which is its own account of the bottom-left stacking order, and it is the only place Snapchat describes how the CTA button looks: white with black text, or a colour taken from your Public Profile logo, which is the default.

Apply Now is published for exactly two attachment types, Website and Lead Form, which is the row that matters for a hiring ad. The Marketing API mapping agrees, listing APPLY\_NOW under web view, lens web view and lead generation only.

### Crop behaviour

Snapchat crops the top snap to fill the 9:16 frame and lets you choose the anchor. The Marketing API publishes four values for top\_snap\_crop\_position: OPTIMIZED, which is the default, plus MIDDLE, TOP and BOTTOM. What OPTIMIZED optimises for is not published, and neither is what happens on screens taller than 9:16. Meta documents that case; Snapchat does not.

### What Snapchat does not publish

Snapchat gives no figure for any of these. If a spec sheet hands you one, it did not come from Snapchat.

Which number to use

## Six Snapchat figures that depend on the page you read

Five of these sit between pages Snapchat publishes itself. The sixth is Meta's, kept here because it is where the 40% figure so often attributed to Snapchat actually lives. Here is the number to build to, with the sources under it.

- Snapchat's dedicated safe-zone page carries no number, and two other Snap pages give different ones.

For a Single Image or Video ad, use 150 px top and 330 px bottom: that pair is on the page written for this format.

  [The sources, side by side](https://recruitmentads.com/free-tools/ad-mockup/snapchat#sc-c1-safe-zone-page)

- Snapchat publishes two canvas resolutions for the same ad.

Build at 1080 x 1920: the Help Center treats it as the canvas and 720 x 1280 as the floor, while the marketing site publishes the floor as the resolution.

  [The sources, side by side](https://recruitmentads.com/free-tools/ad-mockup/snapchat#sc-c4-canvas-resolution)

- Snapchat publishes 30 minutes and 180 seconds for the same ad.

180 seconds satisfies all three pages. The Story Ad page constrains the same ad when it runs inside a Story, which may be the reconciliation, but no Snapchat page says so.

  [The sources, side by side](https://recruitmentads.com/free-tools/ad-mockup/snapchat#sc-c2-duration)

- Snapchat's brand name limit is 32 characters on three surfaces and 25 on a fourth.

Use 32. Three Snapchat sources say 32, including the Marketing API schema; only the marketing spec sheet says 25.

  [The sources, side by side](https://recruitmentads.com/free-tools/ad-mockup/snapchat#sc-c3-brand-name)

- Snapchat's help pages say click and its API docs say swipe up.

Treat the tappable CTA pill as current: the Help Center is the more actively maintained surface, and it carries the Dynamic CTA language the API docs lack.

  [The sources, side by side](https://recruitmentads.com/free-tools/ad-mockup/snapchat#sc-c6-click-or-swipe)

- Meta's dedicated safe-zone page carries no numbers, and adds a 40% rule found nowhere else.

Use the placement pages' figures. Treat 40% as the operative bottom reserve only for Reels ads that carry disclaimers; that rule appears on this one page.

### Verbatim wording from the pages

What to use

For a Single Image or Video ad, use 150 px top and 330 px bottom: that pair is on the page written for this format. The 150 px bottom belongs to Commercials, which support only Web View and AR Lens attachments and therefore carry less bottom furniture. Snapchat never states that as the reason, so it is a reading, not a reconciliation.

### Snapchat publishes two canvas resolutions for the same ad

The safe zone is stated in pixels against “your canvas”, so which canvas you believe changes what the pixels cover.

FAQ

## Snapchat safe-zone questions

### Does Snapchat publish a safe zone?

Yes, in pixels. Snapchat's Single Image or Video Creative Best Practices page says to keep the top 150 px and the bottom 330 px of your canvas clear of graphics and logos, read 16 August 2026. It is a design recommendation, not an upload gate: nothing is rejected for breaking it. The page Snapchat dedicates to safe zones carries no number at all.

### What is Snapchat's safe zone as a percentage?

Snapchat never gives one. It gives pixels against your canvas, and it publishes two different canvases: 1080 x 1920 on the Help Center, 720 x 1280 on its own marketing site. The same 150 px and 330 px are 7.81% and 17.19% of the taller canvas and 11.72% and 25.78% of the shorter one. Those conversions are arithmetic, not Snapchat's, so use the pixels.

### Is Snapchat's safe zone 40%?

No. No Snap-owned page states 40% in any context (eleven Snap sources plus a targeted search, 16 August 2026). The 40% belongs to Meta, which asks for the bottom 40% of a Reels ad to stay clear when the ad carries disclaimers. Quoting it as Snapchat's figure is a fabrication.

### Why do Snapchat's own pages give different bottom reserves?

Because they describe different formats. Creative Best Practices gives 330 px for a Single Image or Video ad; Commercial Specifications gives 150 px for a Commercial. Commercials support only Web View and AR Lens attachments, so they carry less furniture at the bottom, but Snapchat never states that as the reason. For a Single Image or Video ad, design to 330 px. Both figures were read on 16 August 2026.

### What sits inside Snapchat's bottom safe zone?

Snapchat names the occupants on its safe-zone page: brand name, headline, call-to-action pill and progress bar. The Marketing API adds that the headline renders under the brand name, and the Dynamic Collection Ads docs put the collection thumbnails at the bottom of the top snap. The Commercials page puts the AD slug in the lower right corner. Snapchat never says which element takes which part of the 330 px.

### Does Snapchat's safe zone move?

The thing it protects against does. Three Snap pages state that CTA format and placement are optimised for each impression, and that the Dynamic CTA variants do not appear in Ads Preview (all read 16 August 2026). So treat 330 px as a floor rather than an exact constant.

### What size should a Snapchat ad be?

Full screen, 9:16, on a 1080 x 1920 canvas, with 720 x 1280 as the minimum image size. Video is .mp4 or .mov, H.264, up to 1 GB, from 3 seconds to 30 minutes on the spec page. Images are .jpg or .png up to 5 MB and are converted into a 5 second video. Brand name up to 32 characters, headline up to 34. All from Snapchat's Single Image or Video specs, read 16 August 2026.

### How long can a Snapchat ad be?

It depends which Snapchat page you read. The Single Image or Video specs say 3 seconds to 30 minutes if the file stays under 1 GB. The Story Ad specs say up to 180 seconds for the same ad. The marketing spec sheet says 3 to 180 seconds. All three were read on 16 August 2026, and 180 seconds is the only length that satisfies all of them.

### Which call to action can a recruitment ad use on Snapchat?

Apply Now, and it is published for exactly two attachment types: Website and Lead Form. It is not available on App Install, Deep Link or AR Lens attachments.
